Shivan Raju earned his Bachelor’s degree in Legislative Law from New Law College, Mumbai, in 1997, laying a strong foundation for his legal career. He was subsequently enrolled with the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa in 2005, marking the beginning of his active practice in law. Over the years, he has honed his expertise and gained a reputation for his diligence and knowledge in various legal matters.
In addition to his legal qualifications, Shivan Raju is an esteemed member of the O.S. High Court, Bombay, where he is involved in significant legal proceedings and matters. He is also an Associate Member of the Indian Institute of Bankers (IIB), Mumbai, reflecting his proficiency in banking and financial law, which has further broadened his legal expertise. His diverse affiliations and experiences have equipped him with a well-rounded perspective, enabling him to offer effective legal counsel across multiple domains.
He began his professional journey by joining a foreign bank where he has also worked as a trustee of employee’s provident fund, where he gained a solid foundation in banking operations, regulatory compliance, and financial management. His experience at the foreign bank provided valuable insights into the banking practices. This early exposure to the banking industry laid the groundwork for his future success as a legal expert in banking and finance law. His unique blend of banking experience and legal expertise enables him to provide comprehensive guidance to clients on complex banking and finance matters.
Subsequently, Shivan Raju transitioned to the legal field by joining a reputed law firm known as SNG & Partners. Before founding SRB Partners, he served as a partner at SNG & Partners, where he played a crucial role in conducting legal matters, legal due diligence for banks, asset reconstruction companies, and other institutions involved in the purchase of assets on portfolios. He also conducted company due diligence across various industries, including metals, polyfilms, microfinance, electronics, sugar, and textiles. During his tenure, he prepared documentation on banking and consortium agreements, drafted security documents, escrow agreements, service legal agreements, and mortgages, and provided legal opinions on various banking and litigation matters, including BIFR/AAIFR and CDR cases. His comprehensive experience at SNG & Partners further honed his expertise, ultimately paving the way for the founding of SRB Partners.

Shivan Raju’s primary focus areas include advising on complex issues related to mortgage loans, housing loans, and the acquisition of non-performing asset (NPA) portfolios. He is particularly adept at providing legal opinions on property titles, ensuring that they are free from encumbrances and possess clear ownership status. His expertise in conducting thorough due diligence and reviewing loan and security documents from a legal perspective allows him to offer invaluable insights on the enforceability of such documents. He also assists banks and financial institutions with regulatory compliance, customer services, and the creation and perfection of security interests, ensuring that all transactions comply with relevant laws and regulations.
In addition to his work in banking and finance, he has a particular emphasis on real estate law. He has conducted comprehensive property title searches and due diligence on pan India basis particularly in the State of Maharashtra and Southern States of India, focusing on verifying the legal status and marketability of properties. His work ensures that any potential legal issues, including pending litigation or financial encumbrances, are identified and addressed before proceeding with a transaction. He is also skilled in analysing land use status, which is crucial when providing legal opinions on property-related matters, including loan approvals and acquisitions.
Furthermore, Shivan Raju has significant experience in insolvency and bankruptcy law, particularly in his role as a Resolution Professional. He has acted in this capacity for various high-profile insolvency cases. His expertise extends to advising Committees of Creditors and representing them before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).
